We are powerfully collaborating with industry scientists, advanced nutrition clinical nutritionists, and academic faculty to drive impactful outcomes-based research aimed at improving the lives of individuals with autism.
In our scenario, industry scientists bring their innovative technologies and interventions. Together with advanced nutrition clinical nutritionists, food and Nutrition, and university-based scientists, we combine knowledge on how nutrient-dense interventions can restore order, support neurodevelopment, and improve overall health. Our academic affiliations provide the research framework, ensuring rigorous scientific methods and contributing a deep understanding of autism's complexities.
Working convergently means integrating these diverse scientific fields to create a holistic approach to clinical trials. This collaboration can lead to:
We aim to significantly enhance the design, execution, and outcomes of clinical trials, ultimately benefiting patients and advancing nutritional medical science.

According to the latest data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1 in 36 8 year old children are identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). (2020) This estimate comes from the CDC's Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring (ADDM) Network. The prevalence of ASD is reported to occur in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups, and it is nearly 4 times more common among boys than among girls.

Dr. Anita Panjwani, with her extensive research in human nutrition and public health, focuses on improving health spans by addressing access to and palatability of nutrient-rich foods. Her work includes studying the efficacy of anti-inflammatory phytochemicals for preventing and treating chronic diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders.
Dr. Panjwani’s research goal is to improve the healthspan of individuals by addressing issues of access to and palatability of nutrient rich and therapeutic foods. Given the importance of the successful incorporation in the diet of these compounds, she is also interested in sensory-related ingestive behaviors that are particularly challenging for many individuals with neuropsychiatric disorders. Dr. Panjwani believes plant-based therapies are a “green” solution that are translatable in low-resource settings, reaching those in most need.

Since participating in the functional (feasibility) nutritional study (PEARL), Gabor, our 14 year old son on the autism spectrum, has experienced significant improvements in both his health and overall behaviors. Initially, we made the shift to an organic diet, and almost immediately we noticed a boost in his focus and a reduction in certain behavioral challenges. The shift to an organic diet, followed by the dietary adjustments based on the FiT results — particularly eliminating gluten and dairy — has made a noticeable difference in his health and behavioral issues. Gabor himself has reported feeling better physically, particularly noting a reduction in his chronic runny nose, which had been a persistent issue for him prior to the dietary adjustments.
These adjustments have not only helped alleviate this issue but have also contributed to a marked increase in his focus and behavior, both of which are now much more stable. These positive changes reflect the direct impact of the new nutrition plan, and Gabor is excited to continue this journey toward better health. It has been truly rewarding to witness his progress and the positive impact of personalized nutrition on both his physical and cognitive well-being.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to PEARL and the Purdue staff for their dedication and support over the course of the past 12 weeks. The information shared and the guidance provided throughout this study have been incredibly insightful and meaningful. I truly appreciate the time and effort invested in making this experience so enriching.
